How ClaudeArena works
How Practice and full exams differ, how a sitting is built, the modes and timing, how callnames, passwords and the leaderboard work, and the fair-use limits.
Practice or full exam?
Both are free. Practice is for focused study, on your terms. A full exam is a mock of the real one, and the only kind of session that goes on the leaderboard.
| Practice | Full exam | |
|---|---|---|
| Account | None needed: 120 free questions a day on each browser | A free callname (a name and a password) |
| Domains | The domains or objectives you choose, or, signed in, Drill my weak spots | Every domain |
| Length | From 10 questions up to one full sitting | One full sitting: 60 Foundations, 63 Professional |
| Question mix | Drawn at random from what you chose | Balanced to the official domain weights; Foundations also draws 4 of its 6 scenario types |
| Timing | Optional | Always timed: 60, 90 or 120 minutes |
| Answers | After each question, or at the end | At the end |
| Go back and flag | With answers at the end, yes, with a review screen before you submit; with answers after each question, no | Yes, with a review screen before you submit |
| Save for later | Yes, signed in, until midnight | No: the clock always runs |
| Counts for | XP and your objective scores, when signed in | The leaderboard, medals and completing a mode, as well as XP and objective scores |
Sittings, modes and timing
- Foundations: a full sitting is 60 questions. Like the real exam, it draws 4 of the 6 scenario types at random. ClaudeArena then adds stand-alone questions to its practice sittings, balanced to the blueprint's domain weights; the exam guide doesn't mention stand-alone questions. Some scenario types come in more than one version (a different company, different questions), and each sitting gets one version of each.
- Professional: a full sitting is 63 questions drawn at random, balanced to the domain weights. Each sets out its own business situation; unlike Foundations, the exam guide lists no shared scenarios.
- Domain weights and a study guide: Foundations weighs its five domains 27 / 18 / 20 / 20 / 15%, Professional its seven 17 / 13 / 19 / 16 / 14 / 14 / 7%. The study guide lists them in full, with the facts to know for each domain and where the exam guide differs from today's documentation.
- Modes: Normal, Hard and Expert for both exams.
- Choose-two questions only score if both answers are right.
- Timing: optional in Practice. A full exam is always timed (60, 90 or 120 minutes; 120 is the real exam's pace) and shows answers at the end.
- Results show your score per domain and per objective, and you can practise your weakest objectives straight away.
- Save for later: with a callname, a Practice session can be saved and resumed later the same day, on any device you sign in on. Its clock stops while it's saved. Saved sessions last until midnight, up to 5 at a time. A full exam can't be saved: its clock always runs.
- Demo run: 8 questions to get to know the format, no callname needed.
Callnames and the leaderboard
Practice works without a callname: 120 free questions a day on each browser, about 4 hours at exam pace. Register a callname with a password for full exams, the leaderboard, XP and badges, and practice beyond the free questions. Callnames are unique, and only you can play and score under yours. Sign in with your callname and password on any device, one device at a time: signing in on another device asks first, then signs the old one out, and a full exam running there can be finished on the new one. A device stays signed in until you sign out there, sign in somewhere else, change your password or reset it.
Choose a password of at least 10 characters that you don't use anywhere else; a short phrase works well. When you register you get 10 recovery codes, shown once: save them. Forgot it? Choose "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page (Sign in, at the top of every page) and enter your callname, one recovery code and a new password. Each code works once, and you can make a new set from Recovery codes on your account page, which cancels the old one. If you're ever signed out by a reset you didn't make, reset again straight away with another code and make a new set. If your codes no longer work, or you've lost them, email contact@claudearena.dev from the address you'd like the reply sent to, giving your callname.
Answers are checked on the server, so every leaderboard score reflects answers actually given, within the time limit. Each exam and mode has its own board, and each callname appears once on it, with its best run. Entries rank by points: 100 per correct answer, times the mode (Normal 1×, Hard 1.5×, Expert 2×). Equal points go to the faster time. Answering several in a row earns a badge, not points. Boards with few players also show a few rival bots (🤖) at the pass line to beat; they aren't players and never count in your placing. Last 30 days shows the same boards over recent runs only, and the Roll of honour lists everyone who has cleared Expert on an exam, in the order they first did it.
Medals, badges and sharing
- Full exams work like the real one: go back, change answers and flag questions to review until you submit. Answers are shown at the end. Practice set to show answers at the end works the same way.
- You passed: passing a full exam opens a full screen with the exam and mode, your score, this run's medal and the exam guide version the questions follow. It's an unofficial practice result and names nobody.
- Medals: each exam and mode has three. Pass a full exam (72%+) for 🥉 Bronze, pass it with the 90-minute limit for 🥈 Silver, and with the 60-minute limit for 🥇 Gold. Pass every mode of an exam to complete it; win gold on Expert in every exam to become Grand Architect.
- Bug hunter: spotted a wrong answer or an unclear question? Report it from the results screen. If you were signed in and it gets fixed, you'll see a thank-you and earn the Bug hunter badge.
Fair use
- Without a callname: 120 practice questions per browser in any 24 hours, in sessions of any length, and 240 per network. Everyone behind the same public internet address (a home, an office, a university, some mobile networks) shares the 240, so on a shared network they run out quickly. A free callname has its own allowance, whatever the network.
- With a callname: up to 10 hours of training a day, counted from your local midnight, and up to 600 questions in any 24 hours, in sessions of any length. When the 10 hours are used, a session already running carries on to the end; you just can't start another until midnight.
- Your local midnight is worked out from the timezone Cloudflare estimates for your connection. Nothing about where you are is stored. Behind a VPN or while travelling it may be a few hours off.
