Professional (CCAR-P): format, domain weights and exam technique
What is particular to the Professional exam: its format, how much each domain counts, and its own exam technique. What the exams share is on the study guide's overview.
Exam update. Anthropic updates the CCAR-P exam on 7 December 2026 and publishes its new exam guide on 17 November 2026. If you sit the exam on 7 December or later, prepare with the new guide. This guide and ClaudeArena's Professional questions follow the current guide, version 1.0, and will be brought in line with the new one after 17 November.
The Professional exam at a glance
In short. CCAR-P, Claude Certified Architect: Professional, is Anthropic's advanced architect credential, covering integration architecture, governance and evaluation at enterprise scale. It has 63 questions in 120 minutes across 7 domains, and a scaled score of 720 on a 100 to 1,000 scale passes. Each question sets out its own business situation; unlike Foundations, the exam guide lists no shared scenarios. The domains are listed with their weights on the Professional page.
| Official name | Claude Certified Architect – Professional |
|---|---|
| Code | CCAR-P |
| Format | 63 questions in 120 minutes; multiple choice and multiple response, and each question says how many answers to pick |
| Passing | A scaled score of 720 on a 100 to 1,000 scale, measured against a fixed standard rather than against other candidates. The score report shows percent correct per domain, but only the total decides pass or fail |
| Who it's for | Mid- to senior-level solution architects, AI and ML engineers, technical leads and senior engineers who design and deliver production AI systems. Recommended: 3+ years in systems architecture or platform engineering and 6+ months hands-on with Claude or a similar LLM system in production. There are no formal prerequisites |
| Fee | $175 USD for each attempt; the fee at checkout reflects any partner-tier discount |
| Delivery | By Pearson VUE, online proctored or at a test centre; cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before |

Professional exam technique
Professional questions usually offer several options that would work. The best one fits the constraint the question states: a regulation, an SLA, a budget, a team's skills, a deadline. Find that constraint first.
- Understand before you build. When the problem, the users or the success measure is unclear, the answer is discovery or measurement, not a new system.
- Simplest thing that meets the requirement. A single prompt before a workflow, a workflow before an agent, one agent before several. Add complexity only when a simpler design falls short on a measured result.
- Measure, then change. An evaluation set and a baseline come before prompt changes, model swaps or optimisation. A change without a metric can't be judged.
- Compliance is a requirement, not a phase. "Deal with it later", "follow the less strict rule" and "one global store for simplicity" are wrong whenever regulated data is involved.
- Reversible and incremental. Prefer A/B tests, staged rollouts and designs you can switch back, over big-bang changes.
